A Birthday Party

There are those beings in the universe who make it a pleasure to throw them a surprise party. You turn out the lights, wait until the person enters, then switch them on and yell "SURPRISE!!!!!" The person screams, yells or does an impromptu jig. Then there are tears, "Oh! You guys!! You're the BEST!! "s, and group hugs.............wait a minute, is this getting too girly?? Well, never mind!! This is how one SHOULD react to a surprise party. Especially one which has been meticulously planned and executed with even quenya and Bacardi Superior thrown into the bargain!

Yesterday, we threw a surprise party for a certain Mr. B. Dragon, who is turning very aged. WE yelled "SURPRISE!!!"
Reaction? Grunt. (Or a very close approximation of the same).
He took the presents, a few half hearted smiles, even at the painstakingly etched quenya. Bottles were opened, cakes were cut, (not all though, I noticed one lying very sad and neglected under a pile of Lays packets), ham sandwiches were dug into. A very disheartened party. No singing, dancing, no excitement at the unexpected party. An i-Pod Nano was braggingly displayed. Much to be admired, I admit, but a tad inappropriate maybe?? I mean, what friends would go to the inordinate trouble of hunting all over New Market for a silver hip flask as a birthday present?? Tsk tsk, old reptile.
people were disappointed more than surprised. Thums Up was drunk in silence as well as the old "peace pipe" in the form of a glass of Superior. All in rather disillusioned quiet, until the Dragon decided to liven up proceedings by jamming (of all things??? at a BIRTHDAY PARTY????). After a few sessions of growling and roaring, as the Aged Member displayed his vocal talents, curfew hour loomed near, therefore I had to leave.

In short: Insipid.

Thank you very much.

You make it sound as if it was a funeral !!!!

And all the cakes have been dutifully finished by me...

And ofcourse I love the hipflask...

I just didn't have words enough to describe anything at all...

And I really really appreciate the birthday party but as they say, Uncle Anc was speechless ... for once...
